Riparazione Dufour 41

The vessel in question hit the rocky seabed at an estimated speed of about 5 knots.

The impact with the bulb was sharp and violent and when the boat was hauled out I was tasked with supervising the complex repair work.

The ultimate goal was to have a boat that was at least as solid and safe as its original condition and to maintain a value commercially while documenting a repair.

After ascertaining the damage and its evolution in the laminate with in-depth investigations, in agreement with the shipyard, a work specification was drawn up describing costs, workmanship and timelines.

Then, in agreement with the owner, the boat saw the removal of the mast to proceed with the removal of the bulb, the preparation of the interior for the complex work, and the removal of all the damaged parts of the laminate and counter-mould.

Subsequently, using the vacuum resin technique, layers of glass cloth were applied and after the application of the finishing gelcoat, the bulb was put back on, increasing the dimension of the steel plates compared to the original design.
